In just over a week, Chaminade’s Jayson Tatum will be out west looking to make another select basketball team roster.
Tatum, a junior at Chaminade, has been invited to the USA basketball u17 training camp which will open on July 24 in Colorado Springs, Co.
Tatum is one of a group of 36 players that is trying out for the squad. The team,which will be culled down to 12 members, will compete in the FIBA World Championships, in Dubai, United Emirates during August 8-16.
As a sophomore, the 6-foot-8 Tatum excelled for the Red Devils averaging 26 points and 11 rebounds per game.
He is rated as the number one junior prospect in the country, according to Scouts.com.
Tatum has received scholarship offers from over 100 Division one schools across the country. Missouri, North Carolina, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, Marquette, Memphis, Ohio State, and St. Louis University are all prime contenders for Tatum’s services.
A savvy ballhandler with strong court sense and an excellent outside shooting touch, Tatum hit 53 percent from the floor and 40 percent from behind the three-point arc.
