When John Burroughs running back John Moten is doing his thing between the hashmarks, it can be a very long and frustrating day for an opposing defense.
Add Priory’s defense to the long list of opponents frustrated by Moten’s running skills.
Moten led the Burroughs offense with five rushing touchdowns including runs of 67 and 55-yards as the Bombers defeated Metro League Priory 38-27 Saturday afternoon (Sept. 6) at Priory.
Priory (1-2)scored via the pass in the first quarter as Andrew Rund hit Ed Griesedieck with a 28-yard touchdown pass for 7-0 Rebels lead with 5:27 left in the first quarter. Burroughs answered as Moten scored on a 67-yard run with just 27 seconds left in the second quarter evening it at 7-7.
In the second quarter, the teams traded scores as Priory went back ahead on a 16-yard TD run by John Agnew. But four minutes later, Moten responded for John Burroughs (3-0) with a 36-yard scoring run. The PAT kick failed, leaving the Bombers down 14-13.
Just before the half, the Rebels stretched their lead to 20-13 on an 11-yard touchdown run by Agnew.
Both teams scored in the third quarter as Andrew Rund scored on a 3-yard run for Priory and Moten scored his third TD of the day on an 8-yard run.
Then in the fourth quarter, Burroughs high-powered offense caught fire as Tre Moore scored on a 6-yard run with 11;48 left.
Then it was Moten doing what does best as the senior running back closed out the last seven minutes of the game scoring on a 29-yard run and a 55-yard run to run to keep the Bombers still undefeated in week three.
