Firefall, Blackjack Billy headline musical entertainment
Ballwin Days is known for offering fantastic musical entertainment from start to finish, and the 2016 festival will be no exception.
This year’s headliner on Friday night, June 10, is country rock band Blackjack Billy, taking the main stage at 9:30 p.m.
Every band has its unique success formula. For Blackjack Billy, it’s a combination of talented songwriters and a drummer with a gift for live performance – and that combination has led to the band being called the “Rolling Stones of country music.”
Blackjack Billy’s debut single, “The Booze Cruise,” became the biggest-selling song on iTunes by any band without a major record deal in the first half of 2013. Based in Nashville, the group describes their music as “redneck rock.”
On Saturday evening, June 11, Ballwin Days presents the legendary group Firefall on the main stage at 9:30 p.m.
Firefall has toured the world and shared stages with other iconic bands like Fleetwood Mac, The Band, The Beach Boys, Kenny Loggins, Journey and others.
In an age where new bands come and go, Firefall has enjoyed a career that spans more than 40 years and shows no signs of slowing down. Firefall’s commercial success includes three gold albums, two platinum albums and 11 chart-topping singles. The band’s biggest hit, “You Are the Woman,” has been played on commercial radio well over 7 million times, and has appeared in many movies and television shows. Other memorable Firefall hits include “Strange Way” and “Just Remember I Love You.”
As great as these bands are, the music at Ballwin Days begins well before – and continues after – they perform. Opening for Blackjack Billy on Friday evening will be St. Louis native and “American Idol” alumnus Chris Bandi. Bandi’s success on that show – making it to the Hollywood competition rounds – helped launch his musical career. Now based in Nashville, Bandi’s fresh country sound is captivating audiences wherever he performs.
On Saturday, the music kicks off in the Beer Garden with country singer-songwriter Matt Kennon from 4-6 p.m.
Kennon’s powerful debut single, “The Call,” shows that he knows the power of a great song. Time and again he’s written thought-provoking, heart-tugging songs that have racked up impressive sales of more than 300,000 singles and 40,000 albums.
Opening for Firefall on the main stage Saturday evening are St. Louis area favoritess The Rogers and Nienhaus Band from 7-9 p.m.
Terry Jones Rogers and Scott Nienhaus are talented singer-songwriters and multi-instrumentalists who have long and varied careers both together and apart – including stints with The Byrds featuring Michael Clarke, The Byrds Celebration, Firefall and Nicolette Larson.
The musical entertainment at Ballwin Days will conclude with a performance by Pat Liston, who will appear in the Beer Garden on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. Liston first gained widespread recognition as one of the founding members of Mama’s Pride, a band known with great affection as “The Pride of St. Louis.”
Liston is a versatile musician who spearheaded the band as a writer and lead vocalist, and also played keyboard and slide guitar.
Don’t miss any of these phenomenal musicians at this year’s Ballwin Days festival.
