Annual hospice walk brings celebration to Queeny Park

Bethesda Hospice Walk 2017

More than 150 participants – a new record, according to organizers – took part in Bethesda’s 5th annual Hospice Care Memorial Walk/Run at Queeny Park on Saturday, June 17.  The participants were split, about 50/50, in terms of those who participated in the 5K event and those who completed the shorter 1-mile route.

Either way, the walkers and their fans participated with a singular mission – to celebrate, honor and remember loved ones who have passed away. Most participants stayed to hear their loved ones’ names read and pin a remembrance ribbon to the event’s “Celebration of Life” unity wreath.

“Honoring our family and friends who have passed away is a great way for us to reflect on how they impacted us,” said Leslie Schaeffer, bereavement coordinator for Bethesda Hospice Care. “We’re grateful to all those who joined us in remembering these special individuals and celebrating their lives.”
