If you grew up in St. Louis, you’ve likely heard of C. R. Frank Popcorn. Family-owned and operated, C. R. Frank has been the go-to supplier for concession stands, church picnics and community events since 1925. From Sno-Kones to pretzels to cotton candy to popcorn, the taste of summer is C. R. Frank.
But it’s also the taste of fall and a staple of holiday gift giving – as in decorative tins filled with crunchy caramel corn, “lick your fingers because it’s so good” cheese popcorn, classic Theatre Fresh Butter, or combinations, including a sweet-savory Chicago Mix of caramel and cheese. These tins also make great thank-you and birthday gifts year-round.
C. R. Frank also rents cotton candy and Sno-Kone machines and sells supplies to the public. And, while its popcorn is in the Dierbergs snack aisle, company president Susan Woltering said, visiting the showroom is worth the drive. Here’s a little secret: C. R. Frank popcorn tins can be refilled in the showroom at a discount.
“Our corn is popped and flavored fresh every day,” Susan explained. “You can order tins online – the tins are packed to preserve freshness – but the best way to get them is to come to the showroom.”
For corporate orders, Susan said the best time to order is October and November. “More and more companies are choosing to give appreciation gifts at Thanksgiving, which makes sense since what they are doing is thanking their customers and clients for their business,” she said.
Susan’s parents, Marie and Jack Kinsella, bought C. R. Frank in 1991 from another local family. Today, Susan runs the company with her brother, John, and their spouses. “It was an honor to work with my parents so long,” Susan said.
