At Cedarhurst of St. Charles, an assisted living and memory care community that opened in April 2017, residents can experience “the best place they’ve ever lived.” Cedarhurst handles the cooking, cleaning and maintenance, and residents get to experience joyous days filled with activity and balance.
“The bottom line is resident care,” says Director Lisa Bullock. “They deserve dignity and respect. I tell my staff all the time that they can learn more at the feet of a senior resident than they’ll ever learn in a textbook.”
Those values extend from the beautiful building with its variety of floor plans, to the compassionate, trained staff and their person-centered care. “Having a servant’s heart is the key to loving our residents well and bringing some joy every day in this season of their life,” says Lisa. “Moving to a new community is always a little scary. Our desire is to understand who each person is, their likes, dislikes, and the daily routine they prefer. This is their new home and we want it to be a meaningful transition.”
Before a resident ever arrives, Cedarhurst prepares a seven-page life story [family, career, hobbies, even pets] for each one so staff can get to know them. They’re supported physically, mentally, spiritually and medically. “This isn’t just a senior,” Lisa says. “It’s a person who’s lived a life.”
At Cedarhurst of St. Charles, residents enjoy a healthy balance between independence and support. Assisted living residents enjoy their favorite furnishings from home and participate in exciting activities and excursions. Memory care residents receive a customized experience, from daily individual therapy and support to group activities and exercises.
