Already missing Ballwin Nursery

To the Editor:

On my way home from work today, I was thinking about making my summer stop at Ballwin Nursery for geraniums, as I had done every year in the past. Of course, I frequent Ballwin Nursery throughout the year for their helpful critter-repelling tips as well as their vast selection of flora. So to say I was heartbroken when I drove past our beloved Ballwin Nursery today and saw signs reading “Store Closing! Everything must go!” would be an understatement.

I can’t help but feel bitterness toward not only our local aldermen for approving the rezoning of that land from R-2 Residential to C-1 Commercial, but also toward ELCO for expanding their ostentatious building plans – as if that’s what Ballwin needed; another obtrusive, pretentious car dealership. Why couldn’t they have redeveloped the currently vacant lot West of ELCO that was previously PetCo? Maybe leaving the dirt-filled lot packed with employee cars was a more attractive option for our city along Manchester Road?

As a constituent of Ward 2, this decision makes me closely question the competency of our aldermen to do what’s right for our city.
