Work on the 65,000-square-foot facility on the 14.34-acre site also has begun, with the operation scheduled to open near the end of next year.
“Topgolf will help our growing tourism base and offer a unique destination for golf enthusiasts and those just looking for a fun outing with friends, family or co-workers,” Chesterfield Mayor Bob Nation said.
Guests can enjoy point-scoring golf games using microchipped balls that instantly score themselves and show players the accuracy and distance of their shots on a television screen in their hitting bay.
Topgolf locations also feature food and beverage service, big screen TVs and music in climate-controlled hitting bays for year-round comfort. Programming includes events for kids and families, social leagues, golf tournaments and golf instruction.
Located on the site of the former Hardee’s Iceplex, the new three-level operation will include up to 3,000 square feet of private event space and 102 hitting bays that can accommodate up to six players at a time.
Topgolf estimates the Chesterfield location will serve about 450,000 visitors during its first year of operation. Nearly half of all Topgolf guests describe themselves as non-golfers.
“The greater St. Louis area has proven to be a great place to live and work, paving the way for us to provide its residents with a new and exciting entertainment experience,” Chris Callaway, Topgolf’s chief development officer, said.
According to the company’s website, Topgolf has 33 locations in operation in the United States and the United Kingdom. Another 17 venues, including the one in Chesterfield, are in the development stage.
