Rockwood Teacher of the Year Lisa Molengraft now has been selected as one of the 2017-18 Regional Teachers of the Year.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education [DESE]’s Regional Teachers of the Year are announced as part of the Missouri Teacher of the Year program. Molengraft was one of 32 teachers selected from all over the state. She was the only local recipient.

“I was stunned when I heard the news,” she said. “I’d like to sincerely thank our Rockwood community.”

The major purpose of the Teacher of the Year program is to recognize teachers’ outstanding contributions to their classrooms. Teacher quality and effectiveness is the most important school-based factor impacting student learning.

“Lisa is truly deserving of this high honor, which is a direct reflection of her dedication and passion for helping all students thrive,” said Superintendent Dr. Eric Knost.

Molengraft said she has been enthralled with the classroom environment since she can remember.

“Challenge every child to become his or her personal best academically, socially and emotionally, then provide the necessary tools to do so,” Molengraft shared in her teaching philosophy. “Teachers should provide an exciting and engaging atmosphere, develop strong student work ethic and invest in relationships with students, parents and peers. Learning should be fun!”

Regional winners received a $250 gift, a $500 scholarship to the Teachers’ Academy for the 2017-18 school year, a certificate and the opportunity to attend the Missouri State Teacher of the Year banquet this fall.
