Parkway West boys make their 30th appearance in state cross country meet

The Parkway West, Lafayette, and Marquette boys teams all return to the Class 4 state cross country championships.

Area runners will compete Saturday, Nov. 4 on the 5,000-meter course at Oak Hills Golf Course in Jefferson City’s Hough Park.

Here is the schedule of boys’ races:

Class 1: 9:35 a.m.

Class 2: 10:10 a.m.

Class 4: 12:30 p.m.

Class 3: 1:05 p.m.

From the Class 4 sectional, the top four teams and top 30 individuals all advance to state.

From the Class 2 and 3 district meets, the top two teams and top 15 individuals move on to state.

In the Class 4, Parkway West, Lafayette and Marquette finished first, second and fourth respectively with 39, 52 and 96 points.

This is Parkway West’s 30th appearance at state and fourth in a row. The Longhorns last won state in 1990. Overall, the program has earned nine state trophies and two state championships.

Lafayette finished third at state last fall. This will be the Lancers’ 16th state appearance and sixth in a row. The Lancers won state in 2015. Overall, the program has earned five state trophies and two state championships.

Marquette will be making its 17th appearance at state and ninth in a row. The program’s best finish is fifth and it was last done in 2015.

In Class 3, Westminster Christian Academy won the District 3 meet. This will be Wesminster’s seventh state appearance and fourth in a row. It’s best finish is third and it was last done in 2015. The program has three state trophies.

In Class 2, Whitfield won with 71 points, followed by No. 2. Principia’s 76 points.

This will be Whitfield’s 10th appearance at state and seventh in a row. The Warriors won state in 2014 for its only state trophy.

This will be Principia’s 24th state appearance. It’s last time at state was in 2013. The program’s best finish was when it won state in 1976, the second of two state championships. The program has seven state trophies.
