The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry has recognized Rep. Bruce DeGroot [R-District 101] with the 2017 Legislative Freshman of the Year Award. The award was presented during the Missouri Business Awards, held at Busch Stadium on Thursday, Nov. 16.
The Freshman of the Year Award honors lawmakers who have quickly become prominent voices in the Missouri Capitol.
In his first term, DeGroot tackled civil justice reform to improve Missouri’s business climate. His successful sponsorship of House Bill 339 tightened restrictions on lawsuits against businesses by prohibiting time limit demands without sufficient information and allowing insurance companies to intervene in tort claims. This bill and related reforms will save Missourians millions and send a clear message that the state is open for business.
“Rep. Bruce DeGroot’s work has been instrumental in bringing balance and fairness to our courts and fostering a climate where businesses can thrive,” said Daniel P. Mehan, Missouri Chamber president and CEO. “We thank him for his service and we look forward to working with him for years to come.”
