Celebrating Life Cake Boutique: For life’s moments – big and small

Since 2009, Celebrating Life Cake Boutique has been striving to make its customers’ special occasions unforgettable and ordinary days a little sweeter.

Owner Sue Thrasher opened her cake boutique in the Wildwood area, but was able to double the store’s frontage when she moved to the Manchester Meadows plaza in Town & Country in March 2016.

“Our goal is to make beautiful desserts that taste delicious, too. It’s important to accomplish both,” Thrasher said.

She explained that 85 percent of the boutique’s business is custom cake orders.  They specialize in wedding cakes, but nothing is off limits. Whether it’s a birthday, wedding or baby shower, a bar mitzvah or first communion, Celebrating Life is sure to please.

“We’ve been called ‘The Cake Boss of St. Louis’ because, whatever your wildest dream design is, we can create it,” Thrasher said. “We tackle designs that other bakeries cannot.”

All the baking and decorating is done in-house by a staff of 10-12 bakers and decorators, who never use shelf-stable ingredients, but rather work with fresh ingredients and make their buttercream and cream cheese icing from scratch each day. Whereas many bakeries freeze their wedding cakes, Celebrating Life does not. Customers have 13 cake flavors and 21 filling options to choose from, including gluten-, dairy- and nut-free options. Gluten-free cupcakes are offered daily for walk-in patrons.

The boutique offers slices of ready-to-go French vanilla wedding cake with a raspberry jam filling. Also immensely popular is their luscious peanut butter pie, prepared with ganache, filled with chocolate chips for crunch and topped with peanut butter cups. In all, 10 pie flavors and six different cake flavors are available daily in the shop, providing an immediate sweet treat fix for customers.

Patrons looking for a savory option can stop by on Fridays when the shop offers its warm pretzel nibs, either salted or coated in cinnamon sugar. The melt-in-your-mouth pretzels are unparalleled and are a fan-favorite among the shop’s regulars.

The Cake Boutique also offers an event room that accommodates up to 28 people. Whether it’s for a birthday, shower, Scouting or team meeting, the event room is a great place for entertaining.

“The space can be reserved without purchasing food,” said Thrasher. “You are welcome to bring outside food and beverages, including adult beverages, or even hired entertainment, to our facility.”

For children’s parties, 10 different themed options are available, providing a more structured party option where the details are left to the boutique. Whether it’s an American Girl theme or tea party for the young ladies, or a Star Wars or erupting volcano cake themed event for the young gentlemen, it’s sure to be a success.

‘Nothing is off limits,’ says Celebrating Life Cake Boutique owner Sue Thrasher, not even an impressive aircraft carrier.

The event room also is used for decorating classes that vary by age, and gingerbread houses during the holiday season.

The Cake Boutique also can help with holiday gift shopping. Right now, the shop offers special gift packages that include liqueur bonbon flights and European cookie gift boxes – and even a few non-food items, like cute aprons for the young bakers in your life.

To celebrate life’s big moments, or simply satisfy a sweet tooth, look no further than the Celebrate Life Cake Boutique.
