Parkway South Middle teacher charged with statutory rape

On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued charges on Ronald Smith Jr., 42, of the 2000 block of Painted Leaf Drive in Maryland Heights, for one count of statutory rape in the second degree, one count of statutory sodomy in the second degree, and sexual contact with a student by a teacher.

Smith is a teacher at Parkway South Middle, 760 Woods Mill Road as well as a football and girls basketball coach at Parkway South High. He is being held on a $150,000, no-10-percent bond.

According to the probable cause statement, the defendant had sexual intercourse with the victim between May 1, 2017, and Nov. 1, 2017. Between Aug. 1, 2015, and Dec. 25, 2015, defendant sodomized the victim, who was under the age of 17. Between Aug. 1, 2015, and June 1, 2016, the defendant had sexual contact with the victim at Parkway South Middle School. The victim is a student in the Parkway School District.

St. Louis County Police is asking anyone who believes they may have been victimized by Smith to call (314) 615-8693.

Detectives from the St. Louis County Police Department’s Child Abuse Unit conducted the
investigation and presented the case to the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s office where the above charges were issued. No other victims had come forward at the time of sentencing.
