District wrestling competition will determine who qualifies for state meet


It’s time for the postseason to begin in high school wrestling.

The action in the two-day district tournaments begins Friday (Feb. 9).

Whitfield is the defending Class 1 champion. The Wildcats will host the District 1 competition.

The District 1 action begins at 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. Saturday.

Here are the District 1 teams: Brentwood, Central (New Madrid County), Cleveland NJROTC, Gateway Science Academy, Hancock, Lutheran North, Lutheran St. Charles, Maplewood, Missouri School for the Blind, Palmyra, Principia, Sumner, Valle Catholic and Whitfield.

The Class 4 District 1 meet will be held at Lindbergh. The meet begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday and continues on Saturday at 10 a.m. Admission is $6.00 per day – ages 6 through Adult. A concession stand will be available throughout the tournament.

Here are the Class 4, District 1 teams: CBC, Eureka, Fox, Jackson, Kirkwood, Lafayette, Marquette, Northwest, Oakville, Parkway South, Poplar Bluff, Seckman, St. Louis University High and Vianney.

The Class 4, District 2 meet will be held at Francis Howell. The meet begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday and continues on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Here are the Class 4, District 2 teams: Chaminade, De Smet Jesuit, Francis Howell, Francis Howell Central, Francis Howell North, Fort Zumwalt North, Fort Zumwalt West, Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood West, Holt, McCluer North, Pattonville, Ritenour, Timberland and Troy Buchanan.

The Class 3, District 2 meet will be held at Hannibal. The meet begins at 4:30 p.m. Friday and continues on Saturday at 10 a.m.

Here are the Class 3, District 2 teams: Clayton, Fort Zumwalt East, Fort Zumwalt South, Hannibal, Hazelwood East, Ladue, Liberty, McCluer, MICDS, Parkway Central, Parkway North, Parkway West, St. Charles, University City, Warrenton and Westminster Christian Academy.

The Class 2, District 2 meet will be held at Mexico. The meet begins at 4 p.m. Friday and continues on Saturday at 9 a.m.

Here are the Class 2, District 2 teams: Fulton, John Burroughs, Kirksville, McCluer South Berkeley, Mexico, Miller Career Academy, Missouri Military Academy, Moberly, Normandy, Orchard Farm, Priory, Soldan and Winfield.
