To the Editor:
Going on a weekend float trip in Missouri feels a little like being the only sober person at a party. I wish we still had something like the old blue laws [no alcohol sales] in such a way that people are prohibited from drinking alcohol on Missouri rivers each Sunday.
I don’t want to limit people’s rights, but what about all those families who want to float on the weekend without exposing their kids to coarse language and crude behavior; not to mention people who simply enjoy the river for its own sake without the need for alcohol? Is it too much to ask people not to get sloppy drunk on our rivers at least one day of the week? In the meantime, I’m going to have to save up my vacation days for Wednesdays of next summer; so I can enjoy our waterways with my son.
