Following an affirmative decision by the Wildwood City Council on Nov. 26 and a recommendation by the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission, construction on a new independent retirement community complex is officially slated for spring 2019.

The development, The Prime Place at Wildwood Town Center, will be located at the corner of Main and Eastgate streets in Wildwood Town Center in Ward 8, adjacent to the existing Wildwood 10 B&B Theater.

Landwide Development Corporation [LDC], a St. Louis-based developer, will build the $22 million mixed-use, market-rate independent senior living community. KAI Design & Build will serve as the project’s architect, engineer and general contractor on the project.

“Our senior living community provides a new kind of independence, unlike anything else in the area,” Michael E. Kennedy Sr., president of Landwide Development Corp., said in a press statement released Dec. 12. “Our development will encourage residents to remain active within downtown Wildwood and promote interaction between residents and their families within the surrounding business, shopping and entertainment area …”

The Prime Place is planned with 48 apartments ranging in size from 680 to 1,300 square feet. A 5,000-square-foot public restaurant and 10,000 square feet of retail space on the main level also is planned.

According to the press release, Landwide plans to begin pre-leasing the apartments in December 2018. A groundbreaking is planned to follow by summer 2019, with a completion date set for 2020.
