Girl scouts get first-hand look at Ballwin Public Works

By: Bonnie Krueger

Girl Scout Troop 2086 from Westridge Elementary toured the Ballwin Public Works department in a Scout event.

Staying in the public works yard, the Scouts walked through operations, getting an inside look at the various trucks that make up the fleet, including snow plows.

They also met with the on-site mechanics who maintain the trucks and cars for the city of Ballwin. One of the highlights was seeing the salt dome and learning about the salt brining process.

Despite the cold weather, they made the most of the opportunity. They even toured the sign shop, where sign specialists make all the signs you see in Ballwin, including stop signs, crosswalks and street signs.
