The Green Trails Elementary PTO has set up a PayPal account for anyone wanting to assist the family of Maliyah Palmer with funeral expenses.

Maliyah was accidentally killed on Friday, Dec. 14, when her 12-year-old brother discovered a 9 mm handgun in a dresser in his parent’s bedroom while they were away at a Christmas party. A 16-year-old sister was watching the younger children at the time.

The family lives in Florrisant. In a press statement, Florissant Police Chief Timothy Lowery, said: “You couldn’t have written a more tragic script, the whole thing is just so tragic and terrible, but we have to put our personal feelings aside and do the law enforcement side of this,” Lowery said.

For online donations, visit paypal.me/GreenTrailsPTO. When donating, in the notes section, please indicate the donation is for the Palmer Funeral Fund. The Green Trails PTO will cover the cost of all PayPal fees, so 100 percent of donations will support the Palmer family.

No charges have been filed at this time; however, under Missouri law, it is possible that the parents could be charged with endangering the welfare of a child [first-degree], which is a felony punishable by up to seven years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
