Student print journalism top awards

By: Bonnie Krueger

The PWestPathfinder.com from Parkway West High earned its first Gold Crown award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, making it one of four schools in the country to receive the honor for its online newspaper program. Additionally, The Marquette [High] Messenger  won the Silver Hybrid News award.

The Crown Awards honor top student publications chosen from CSPA’s members. During Crown consideration, publications are judged on their excellence as shown by their design, photography, concept, coverage and writing. Crown Awards summarize overall excellence in the entire publication and function as a “top-down” view of general excellence.

Publications Journalism Adviser Debra Klevens, Parkway West High, was selected as a CSPA Gold Key recipient, recognizing her service to the association. There have only been 902 recipients of the Gold Key since 1929.
