SSD students receive scholarships

By: Bonnie Krueger

The Special School District of St. Louis [SSD] honored 21 students with Rosemary Zander awards and special scholarships at the annual Commitment to Kids Banquet on April 4. Five students from Parkway and Rockwood were among the Zander awardees.

They are Ellie and Evan Glaser, Barretts Elementary; Abdulhafidh Ibrahim and Natalie Littich, Parkway West High; and Halima Naqibullah, Rockwood Summit High.

The Rosemary Zander awards are named for an SSD teacher who dedicated her career to the success of students. When Zander retired, she planned to devote her time to presenting seminars and workshops on building student self-esteem before a tragic accident took her life. Her mission lives on in the highest honor awarded to SSD students.

The Bonhomme Lions are longtime supporters of education in the St. Louis area and have granted scholarships through the Bonhomme Lions Scholarship Fund. Those recipients include: Alexandra Blake, Marquette High; Seyoon Choi, Parkway Central High; and Jaylyn Hauck, Parkway North High.
