Parkway, Manchester enter into formal agreement

By: Bonnie Krueger

The city of Manchester entered into a formal district partnership agreement with Parkway following the passing of a resolution at the May 6 Board of Aldermen meeting. The relationship between the two entities is not new; in fact, it has been a longstanding tradition to collaborate to enhance both city events and Parkway academic and extracurricular endeavors.

While only five area schools are within city limits – Barretts, Wren Hollow and Hanna Woods elementary, South High and Southwest Middle – the collaboration is inclusive throughout the district. At the city’s senior citizen lunch every December, the Cougar Chorus from Carman Trails Elementary performs holiday classics for the attendees. Parkway also provides fine arts percussion instruments, chairs and music stands at no charge for the Manchester Community Band.  Similarly, the city provides access to facilities for use by Parkway tennis and cross country teams and physical education classes at no charge.

The agreement is valid for the period of one year, to be reviewed at the end of each school year to determine the feasibility of continuing the program.
