A team of students from Parkway South High were honored at the May 8 Board of Education meeting for an impressive finish in the 2019 Missouri State High School Activities Association [MSHSAA] Scholar Bowl competition. The team members, sponsored by math teacher Scott Degitz-Fries, included James Marjamaa, Eric Suter, Emily Linn, Danny Faust, Jessica Estep, Maple Wang, Samantha Musgrave, Trey Lowenthal and Elise Wettach. In April, the team staged an upset over the five-time district champs and former state and national champs in Washington, Mo. The team advanced to the finals by beating Marquette 570-190, Eureka 490-180 and Sullivan in the semifinals 480-200. The South High Scholar Bowl team placed sixth in the State Scholar Bowl competition in Columbia on May 4. The Scholar Bowl is a Jeopardy-style academic challenge and contains trivia questions from literature, music, art, history, science, current events, sports, mythology, geography and math.
