Woerther Elementary School in Ballwin was one of the sites in western St. Louis County that held annual National Night Out observances on Aug. 6.

Hosted by the Ballwin Police Department, the three-hour event drew an estimated 150 visitors during its three-hour run in the school’s parking lot.

According to Det. Scott Stephens, visitors posed a number of questions ranging from camera systems for home security to how best to safeguard their property while away on vacation and other trips. Stephens manned the event with fellow officer Steve Morrison. Members from the department’s Explorer Post also assisted during the event.

National Night Out is an annual community-building event designed to foster police-community partnerships and closer neighborhood relationships.

“We believe the event is a good vehicle for two-way communications,” Stephens said.
