Home improvement grants available for Manchester residents

With $12,511.94 worth of funds still available before the program expires on Oct. 1, the St. Louis County Government’s Home Improvement Program is offering up to $5,000 of home repairs for eligible Manchester homeowners, at no cost.

Eligible home projects include roofing, electrical, plumbing, heating, air-conditioning, hot water heater, tuck-pointing, foundation work, handrail installation, concrete, asphalt, masonry, tree trimming or removal and insulation among others.

To qualify, the applicant must own and live in the home, all property taxes must be current and the household’s total adjusted gross income as shown on the 2018 U.S. Individual Income Tax Return must be within certain limits. Previous grant recipients cannot apply.

The Home Improvement Program is federally funded and operates through St. Louis County Government’s Department of Planning, Office of Community Development in conjunction with the city of Manchester. If funds are not committed to active home improvement clients by Oct. 1, 2019, the funds will be recaptured to other activities that benefit low and moderate-income residents in St. Louis County.
