Week 11 high school football: De Smet, CBC to meet in rematch

The rematch between De Smet and CBC highlights the Week 11 high school football schedule.

CBC (8-2) will play at De Smet (10-0) in a Class 6 District 1 semifinal game 7 p.m. Friday. Both teams are coming off wins last week in the first round of postseason play. De Smet stomped Pattonville 49-7. CBC scored a hard-fought 27-14 victory over St. Louis University High.

CBC is the defending two-time state champions and has played well this year with two losses on its schedule.

It has been a season to remember for De Smet as the Spartans are undefeated.

The Spartans defeated CBC a 42-14 loss on Sept. 20. That was the first Metro Catholic Conference loss in 10 years for the Cadets. De Smet captured the conference championship.

Now the two schools will meet again but the stakes are higher. The winner keeps playing. The loser packs up the equipment until next summer.

De Smet features solid running game. Junior running backs Rico Barfield, Taj Butts and Darez Snider all have rushed for more than 700 apiece. The have combined to score 38 touchdowns. The Spartans use two quarterbacks in seniors Michael Wheeler and AJ Fraser. Wheeler has passed for 831 yards and 13 touchdowns with two interception. Fraser has 702 passing yards and 10 touchdowns.

On defense, De Smet is led by junior linebacker Carter Edwards, who recorded 90 tackles and three sacks. Senior Lanell Carr, a defensive end and linebacker who has committed to West Virginia, has five sacks.

CBC is led by sophomore quarterback Ayden Robinson-Wayne, who has thrown for 1,623 yards and 16 touchdowns and has rushed for 806 yards and 11 touchdowns. Senior linebacker Ray Lingard has 86 tackles and six sacks on defense.

The winner of the game will advance to face the winner of the Francis Howell and Hazelwood Central game for the district championship.

Lindbergh (5-5) at Marquette (9-1) in a Class 6 District 3 semifinal.
Oakville (2-8) at Eureka (8-1) in a Class 5 District 2 semifinal.
McCluer North (6-3) at Parkway West (6-3) in a Class 5 District 3 semifinal.
Webster Groves (5-4) at Chaminade (6-3) in a Class 5 District 3 semifinal.
Westminster (5-5) at Ladue (9-1) in a Class 4 District 3 semifinal.
MICDS (7-3) at Summit (9-1) in a Class 4 District 3 semifinal.

The lone game set for Saturday has John Burroughs (7-3) playing at Priory (8-2) in a Class 3 District 3 semifinal. It has a 1 p.m. kickoff.
