Following success in 2018, the city of Wildwood is relaunching its “Wildwood Snowman Search” for a second year.
The goal of the municipality-wide scavenger hunt is to inspire residents and visitors to shop small and local for the holiday season.
From Nov. 30 to Dec. 31, various businesses across the city will display a uniquely decorated snowman. Residents and visitors can search out the snowmen, take selfies with them and upload their photos to wildwoodsnowmansearch.com for a chance to win a cash prize of up to $1,000. The official hashtag [#WildwoodSnowmanSearch] can be used when posting selfies to social media.
For the 2019 event, 68 businesses have registered so far. For the inaugural event in 2018, 54 businesses registered.
Each snowman will be individually designed by its host business, which also competes for top honors as “most creative.”
In 2018, The Porch by Nettie White Interiors was chosen as the winner in the contest’s Most Creative Snowman category. Honorable mentions were given to Pure by Jen, Heel’s Boutiques/The Color Bar, Stonecrest of Wildwood and Fahr Greenhouse.
The Most Creative Snowman award category will return for 2019, along with a People’s Choice Award that will be determined by individuals who submit photos via the event’s official website [www.WildwoodSnowmanSearch.com]. Last year, over 2,900 photos and selfies were submitted.
A 2019 map will also be available on the event’s official website showing the locations of all snowmen and participating businesses. Businesses participating in the event are scattered throughout multiple sites in the city.
According to Julian Jacquin, the city’s economic development manager, planning for the original event began in August 2018 following a meeting with local business owners who wanted to create a creative and interactive event that would engage the public while also generating local business traffic.
The Wildwood Snowman Search is presented in partnership with the city of Wildwood, the Wildwood Business Association [WBA] and West Newsmagazine.
