The Rockwood School District earned multiple honors at the American Heart Association Hearties Awards ceremony, which was held virtually earlier this fall.
The ceremony recognizes schools and districts in Missouri that participate in the Kids Heart Challenge or American Heart Challenge programs. Rockwood was named the top district in the state of Missouri for the 2019-2020 school year.
Blevins Elementary was awarded as the top school in St. Louis – number two in the state – and received the Champion School Award, with special recognition given to staff members Holly Lennartz, JeanAnn Lashley and Kim Gough. Blevins was followed closely by Woerther Elementary, who was ranked in third place in the entire state of Missouri.
In addition, the Missouri Volunteers of the Year designation was awarded to staff members Amy Gentry and Cory Hoots of Woerther Elementary. The Mis- souri Young Heart Leadership Award, awarded to the top students in Missouri, was given to Brayden and Grayson Pettit, both of Woerther Elementary. The Lifetime of Heart Award was presented to Kim Schlueter, a retiree from Kellison Elementary.
