Rams National 7-on-7 team has 18 local football players ready to compete

The St. Louis Rams National 7-on-7 Team finished second last year and this year the squad of 18 local high school football players will attempt to win it all. Team will be coached by St. Louis Rams manager of fan development Kyle Eversgerd and Rams Training Academy Coach Matt Biermann. The Lineman Challenge participants will be coached by St. Louis Rams youth football ambassador Mike Gohn, who is retiring as the athletic director for the Parkway school district. Port outlasts younger competitors, wins ninth women’s state championship

Father Time is not about to catch Ellen Port just yet. Port, 52, won her ninth  Missouri Women’s Golf Association Amateur Championship on Thursday at The Golf Club of Creekmoor in Raymore. Port entered the final round of the 54-hole tournament challenged by her younger competitors. Port was tied with Oregon graduate Hanule Seo, of Chesterfield. Port played par golf through the front nine.  Port’s only birdie was on No. 11 and it was followed by one bogey on the next hole.  Port amazingly hit all 18 greens, several times from deep rough approaches. Port, Seo tied for lead after two rounds of women’s state amateur championship

Don’t look now but eight-time state champion Ellen Port is in good shape to win her ninth title. Port, who is the John Burroughs golf coach, is tied with Chesterfield’s Hanule Seo at 2-under in the Missouri Women’s Golf Association’s Amateur Championship at The Golf Club of Creekmoor in Raymore. Port began the second round two shots back. She started off Wednesday (July 9) with a birdie on the first hole. Steady pars and two more birdies landed Port in the lead with her score of 3-under 69. Jasper ready to tee it up and play in ninth Metropolitan Open Championship

Shawn Jasper always circles the dates for the Metropolitan Open Championship on his calendar. It gives the Marthasville native a chance to play in a local event. It doesn’t hurt that he was won the tournament twice, either. Jasper and a total of 65 golf professionals from St. Louis and around the country along with some of the area’s elite amateur will tee it up Thursday (July 10) in the ninth Metropolitan Open Championship on the Lewis and Clark Course at the Country Club of St. Albans. Cusumano leads Missouri Women’s Golf Association’s state championship by one stroke

Southern Illinois University Carbondale sophomore Brooke Cusumano leads a strong, deep field by one stroke after round one Tuesday (July 8) of the Missouri Women’s Amateur Championship. The three-day 54-hole tournament is being played at Creekmoor Country Club in Raymore. The Westminster Christian Academy graduate  is playing in her second state championship. Incarnate Word Academy’s Collier earns spot on Team USA’s 3×3 team

Incarnate Word Academy senior Napheesa Collier will be going to China next month. Collier, who committed to the University of Connecticut earlier this spring, has been named to the 2014 U.S. Youth Olympic Women’s Basketball Team. The team will take part in the 3×3 basketball competition in the second annual Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China. The games, featuring 15 sports, will run from Aug. 16-28. It’s a busy time for Catherine Dolan, who has a big golf to-do list. First, she begins the defense of her Missouri Women’s Golf Association Amateur Championship this week at the Golf Club of Creekmoor in Raymore. Next week, Dolan will play in the USGA’s Women’s Amateur Public Links at the Home Course in DuPont, Wash. The tournament begins Monday (July 14).
