Parkway Central Middle band teacher named semifinalist

Parkway Central Middle band teacher, Paul Holzen, was selected as a semifinalist for the 2019 Grammy Music Educator Award. Holzen was chosen as one of 25 semifinalists nationally, out of 2,800 nominations, and the only teacher selected from Missouri.

Eureka High student named city’s first Citizen of Distinction

Lauren Jeffress, a Eureka High senior, was named the City of Eureka’s first-ever Citizen of Distinction because of what she has done in the community. Jeffress’s high school community rallied around her after she lost a loved one. Now, she pays it forward by helping others who experience a similar loss.

High school students teach ‘supergirls’ to code

Earlier this year, Kailin Zhang and Sophie Maniscalco combined their affinity for computers and kids by founding “Supergirls Code” [supergirlscode.wixsite.com/supergirlscode] to provide workshops and after-school clubs to elementary school girls to help foster or nurture a love of computer science through coding.
