Whitfield meets Miller Career Academy in Class 3 girls sectional basketball game

The Whitfield Warriors claimed their sixth consecutive district championship and now play in the sectional. The Warriors (24-5) will face the Miller Career Academy Phoenix (19-6) at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Webster Groves in a Class 3 sectional round game. Whitfield has won 16 of its 18 games played in 2020. The Whitfield girls basketball team won the Class 3 District 5 championship. Marquette junior Kennedi Watkins stepped to the free line but it was no ordinary free throw she was attempting. Fouled attempting to shoot in a recent game against Jackson in the Lindbergh Tournament, Watkins canned the first free throw. It gave the 5-foot-11 forward 1,000 points in her girls basketball career with the Mustangs.
