Week 1 high school football: Parkway South entertains Parkway West and looks to stop two-game skid against the Longhorns

The Parkway West Longhorns and Parkway South Patriots opening the high school football season is good for both schools and, with new district assignments this year, it takes on added significance. “Playing another Parkway school is always great,” Patriots coach Joe Rosewell said. “This year there is extra importance in that West is now a district opponent.” Both teams are in the Class 5 District 2 for the next two seasons. CBC graduate Demos enjoys playing professional football in Germany

Playing football is what Dalton Demos loves. So, he continues playing – even if it means moving to Germany and learning to speak the language. Demos plays in Albershausen, Germany in the German Football League. “I am deeply connected to the sport,” Demos said. “If I would have stopped playing last season, I would not have been able to completely walk away from the game. High school football teams look to use jamborees to help prepare for season openers

Curious to get a look at your high school football team before the upcoming season kicks off Aug. 24? You are in luck then. Many area schools will take part in jamborees Friday (Aug. 17) and Saturday. The action gets under way first as it traditionally does at Parkway West. The will be the eighth year the Longhorns have held a jamboree. The annual Red & Blue kickoff night for West athletes begins at 5 p.m. Friday. West County native Gabbert signs deal with Tennessee Titans

Former Parkway West standout quarterback Blaine Gabbert has a new NFL team  to play for this season. The Tennessee Titans agreed to terms Tuesday on a deal with Gabbert. The 28-year-old Gabbert is expected to replace Matt Cassel as Marcus Mariota’s backup. The Titans announced earlier this month they intend to release Cassel. Gabbert, the No. 10 overall pick in the 2011 draft out of Missouri, started 27 games with the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2011-13. Gabbert endured three rocky seasons with the Jaguars, going 5-22 as a starter. He played the next three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, making eight starts in ...
