Aaron Hill among Rams cut from rooster, but chance to play was dream come true

Aaron Hill fought hard for a chance to win a spot on the St. Louis Rams, but on Aug. 30, Hill found out that he didn’t make the cut. The 6-foot-2, 231-pound linebacker from St. Charles who played in college at Minnesota only wanted a chance. “I’m happy to be playing football,” Hill said after a practice at Rams Park in Earth City. “My last game was a bowl game in college. It’s a great feeling to be playing the game I love. “All my hard work paid off for me. I’ve been playing football for 13, 14 years. To ...

Batt, Glass lead Hazelwood Central over Lafayette

It was a good day for Cameron Scales and the Lafayette Lancer offense but an even better day for Hazelwood Central’s Kevin Batt and Mike Glass. Batt ran for two touchdowns and Glass threw for two scores as the highly-regarded Hawks downed the Lancers 35-21 Saturday at Hazelwood Central in a  non conference game. Lafayette (0-2) continues to search for its first victory of the 2014 season. Timberland defense stifles host Chaminade for 16-6 win

Returning home for week two of the prep football season was not as productive offensively or in the win column for the Chaminade Red Devils. Just week after scoring 50 points at Mehlville, the host Red Devils could not get to the end zone often against a much stouter Timberland defense. Timberland rode its rugged run defense and a balance offense to a 16-6 victory over Chaminade on Friday night. Brendan Rowe got the Wolves on the board first with a 33-yard field goal just nine seconds into the second quarter. Chaminade (1-1) responded with a big play in ...

Former Mizzou, Zumwalt West standout Moe among 10 players cut by Rams

  T. J. Moe did everything he could to stick in training camp this summer with the St. Louis Rams. But on Monday afternoon, the Rams decided to go another route. Moe, a Fort Zumwalt West standout and former Missouri star, was listed among the first 10 players cut by the Rams as the Rams whittled their roster down to 79 players. The Rams needed to release another four players to get down to the league mandated limit of 75 by the end of Monday. Moe signed with the Rams as a free agent in May after spending the 2013 ...

De Smet Jesuit falls, John Burroughs rolls in football openers

Hazelwood Central senior quarterback Mike Glass and senior running back Kevin Batt made life as miserable for the De Smet Jesuit defense as the blistering heat at Hazelwood Central on Saturday. All in all the Hawks rolled up 596 yards of offense on an overmatched De Smet Jesuit defense. The day was not a total loss for the Spartans though as junior quarterback Andrew Effer ...

Eureka holds off Lafayette with stop in final minute

When it was over, Eureka coach Farrell Shelton and his staff could breathe a big sigh of relief. But not until the final seconds and the final drive. On the Lafayette side of the field, it was a frustrating sense of rallying back but coming up short. Eureka’s defense stuffed Lafayette quarterback Cameron Scales on a two-point conversion in the closing seconds and the Wildcats held on for a 17-15 victory over Highway 109 rivals Friday night at Lafayette. In a sloppy opener that took over three hours and had 20 penalties racked up by both teams, it was ...

Lindenwood gridders look to bounce back after rocky 2013 season

After struggling through a challenging 3-6 campaign and a sub par finish in the Midwest Intercollegiate Athletic Association in 2013, the Lindenwood football Lions are definitely looking to turn those numbers around and get back to the winning ways the program enjoyed just two years ago. “We came into the league and had so much success our first year with eight wins and our team had so many seniors on it and all those guys contributed, so it was much harder to replace them and we had a lot to learn that season,”  Lindenwood coach Patrick Ross.
