High school football Week One: Parkway West hosts Parkway South

The Parkway West Longhorns entertain the Parkway South Patriots in the high school football season opener Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. This marks the fourth consecutive year the two teams have met in the season opener. High school jamborees begin the football season

Parkway Central coach Mark Goldenberg is ready for some football. “This is what it’s all about,” Goldenberg said .”This is my favorite time of the year.” Yes, high school football is back. Marquette, Summit end summer workouts doing drills together

The Marquette Mustangs and Summit Falcons recently went through drills together, scrimmaged and ended the day with a relay competition that showed off the players’ strength and endurance. Stewart named new football coach at Marquette

Michael Stewart steps up and will take over the reins of the Marquette Mustangs football program. Michael Stewart, seen here on the sideline last fall, is the new head football coach at Marquette. Stewart, 31, recently was approved to be the new varsity coach. He replaced Matt Klein, who is leaving to coach at Blue Springs South. It is his first time to be a head coach. Karl Odenwald gets the opportunity he has wanted — to be a head football coach. Karl Odenwald is the new head football coach at Parkway North. He’s seen here last fall talking to some Fort Zumwalt North Panthers. Odenwald, 36, is the new coach at Parkway North. CBC’s Gabbert, Anderson named Class 6A players of year for offense, defense

The Missouri Football Coaches Association recently announced their high school all-state football team and CBC dominated the Class 6 team. The Cadets won their second consecutive state championship with a 45-21 win over Rockhurst. The coaches association named Brett Gabbert as the Offensive Player of the Year. MJ Anderson was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year. Gabbert, a 6-foot, 200-pounder has signed with Miami of Ohio. Gabbert was a team captain. He completed 191-of-274 passes for 3,047 yards and 42 touchdowns as a senior. Gabbert also earned first team all-state. As a junior, he threw for 2,862 yards ...
