Quarterfinal pairings set for Midstates Club Hockey Association’s Challenge Cup and Wickenheiser Cup tournaments

The quarterfinal brackets are set for the Midstates Club Hockey Association’s Challenge Cup and Wickenheiser Cup tournaments and both tournaments will have new champions this winter. Several lower seeded teams broke though in the Challenge Cup while top seeded teams prevailed in the Wickenheiser Cup. Top-seeded CBC advanced to the quarterfinals in the Challenge Cup along with No. 2 Vianney, No. 4 Marquette, No. 7 De Smet, No. 8 Lafayette, No. 10 Priory and No. 12 Summit. Reigning Wickenhesier Cup champion Lafayette happy to be playing in Challenge Cup this winter

The Lafayette Lancers will not be defending their Wickenheiser Cup championship this season. The hockey team does not mind. Lafayette qualified to play in the Midstates Club Hockey Association’s Challenge Cup tournament this postseason. “This is where we wanted to be this season,” Lafayette coach Jim Carrico said. “We believe we can compete every game with any team in Midstates. CBC hockey Cadets excited to begin postseason in Challenge Cup pool play

The CBC Cadets have earned the No. 1 seed in the Midstates Club Hockey Association’s Challenge Cup tournament. CBC (20-1) won the Municipal Conference this season. The Cadets then grabbed the top seed for the playoffs. The CBC Cadets finished the regular season with a 20-1 record. Two seniors will be awarded scholarships by Midstates Club Hockey Association

The Midstates Club Hockey Association will award two $3,000 one-time scholarships to seniors in 2020. The purpose for these scholarships is to annually recognize two high school senior players who have exhibited excellent academic performance, demonstrated competitive hockey skills, shown qualities of leadership and sportsmanship, given volunteer community service, shown the ability to succeed at the college or university level and has a financial need in order to attend college. Mullen signs junior hockey tender, hopes to reach Challenge Cup title game

De Smet senior Michael Mullen has his hockey future mapped out. Mullen, a 6-foot, 165-pound forward, recently signed a tender with Jamestown (N.Y.) Rebels, a Tier II junior hockey team. De Smet senior Michael Mullen will play Tier II junior hockey at Jamestown, N.Y. when he finishes high school. It’s time to drop the puck on another Midstates Club Hockey Association season. Play begins Monday (Nov. 4) for some teams while others begin later in the week. St. Louis University High won the Challenge Cup over De Smet Jesuit last season. Lafayette won the Wickenheiser Cup with a win over Duchesne. CBC finishes second in Top Hat Classic, set to open hockey regular season

CBC coach John Jost liked what he saw from his Cadets in the preseason Top Hat Classic hockey tournament. The annual Webster Groves tournament has been a way for CBC to begin the high school hockey season for the last 20 years. The CBC Cadets finished second in the 2019 Top Hat Classic held by Webster Groves. Vianney defeated the Cadets 5-3 in the championship game. Tkachuk signs new contract with Flames

Matthew Tkachuk is about to begin the upcoming NHL season with a new contract. The Calgary Flames recently signed Tkachuk, a native of Chesterfield, to a three-year, $21 million deal. Chesterfield’s Matthew Tkachuk has signed a new three year contract with the Calgary Flames.
