High school racquetball athletes can apply for scholarships

Area high school racquetball athletes have two scholarships, one local and one national, they can apply to receive. In 2006, the Missouri Racquetball Association established the Mike Pohlman Memorial Classic Racquetball Tournament to honor Mike Pohlman, a champion on and off the racquetball court who passed away in 2006. The tournament will be held annually in September and its proceeds will be put into the Mike Pohlman Memorial Fund. The Fund will provide two $1,000 college scholarships annually to players in the Missouri High School Racquetball Association League — one for a senior boy and one for a senior girl. ...

CBC’s state championship football team had seven athletes sign their college letters Wednesday (Feb. 4). Wednesday was the first day area athletes could sign a National Letter of Intent on national signing day. The letter is a binding document that the student athlete will attend the university and that the academic institution agrees to provide athletic financial aid for at least one academic year. The signing day marked the start of the regular signing period for football, soccer and water polo along with lacrosse, field hockey and some other sports. High school rubgy season will kick off with a Feb. 28 tournament at Lindenwood

Winter is still here but it soon will be time to kick off the spring high school rugby campaign. Lafayette won its fourth consecutive state championship in Class 4 last fall and several Lancers earned berths on the all-state team. he Eureka Wildcats reached the Class 4 Final Four for the third year in a row and coach Mark Mosley was honored by the Suburban West Conference as its coach of the year.
