Missouri Sports Hall of Fame 2014 inductions includes several local legendary figures

Legendary amateur golfer Jim Holgrieve and three outstanding high school coaches in MICDS’ Ron Holtman, St. Joseph’s Academy’s Maureen McVey and De Smet’s Rich Grawer will be among a total of 13 individuals and two American Legion baseball teams that will be inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in ceremonies on Thursday (Nov. 6) at the St. Charles Convention Center in St. Charles. It’s time for high school girls tennis team and invidual singles and doubles districts to begin.    Here are the seedings for Class 2 District 3 hosted by St. Joseph’s Academy: 1. St. Joseph’s Academy. 2. Visitation Academy. 3. Webster Groves. 4. Nerinx Hall. 5. Ladue. 6. Gateway. Play begins Monday (Sept. 29) when Nerinx Hall plays Ladue and Webster Groves meets Gateway. Chesterfield triathlete wins Half Iron age division

Chesterfield’s Carrie Reuwer, 42, recently competed in the Door County half triathlon in Wisconsin with a final time of 5 hours, 15 minutes, 42.9 seconds. She came in 127 out of 795 Half Iron Individual Triathlon finishers. Among females, Reuwer was 10 out of 293 Half Iron Female Triathlon finishers and won her age division, which had 38 competitors. Evans begins at new volleyball coach at Incarnate Word Academy

Volleyball coach Jean Evans looks to be busier this fall. The Westminster Christian Academy boys volleyball coach also will coach Incarnate Word Academy’s girls volleyball team. “I heard that IWA was looking for a coach, so I asked my friend, Lisa Orlet, about the position,” Evans  said. “Lisa coached there years ago and is now at McKendree (University).  She put me in touch with the AD — Chris Jaco.” Evans, a Westminster alumni. New school year brings conference realignment for West County prep teams

  When the 2014-15 school year kicks off with fall sports later this week, there will be different opponents and different schedules to tackle for West St. Louis County public school sports teams. As part of a massive conference realignment that began back in 2010, schools from West County will have new conference homes in this school year. MICDS’ Wellford makes commitment to play lacrosse at Virginia

MICDS midfielder Harry Wellford has made a verbal commitment to play Division I Lacrosse at the University of Virginia. The program is widely-known for its recruiting successes mainly from the East Coast; Wellford is the first St. Louis lacrosse player to commit to an Atlantic Coast Conference school. After considering Duke, Princeton, Georgetown, Notre Dame and a few others, Wellford decided on the Cavaliers. Villa Duchesne fires athletic director Smith

  There will be a new athletic director put in charge of running the atheltic department at Villa Duchesne. On the first day of fall practice, Villa Duchesne fired its athletic director. It was announced Dory Smith was relieved of her duties Monday afternoon. No reason was given for her dismissal. It is Villa Duchesne’s stated policy to not comment on personnel matters. There is no interim athletic director in place as the school commences its search for a replacement. Also, Smith’s abrupt dismissal has caused a bit of turmoil for Metro League programs. Rockwood Thunder Volleyball Club sends 11 teams to national championships

The Rockwood Thunder Volleyball Club sent 11 teams to the recent Junior National Championship in Minneapolis and returned with outstanding results. Team U16 Mizuno won the championship in the National division, finishing the tournament with an impressive match record of 10-1. “The first day of tryouts, I knew we were going to be good,” said Team U16 Mizuno player Taryn Griffey. “We decided early on that we were going to win Nationals.
