Whitfield meets Valley Park in Class 3 District 4 boys basketball opener

Whitfield won the boys district championship last year but the Warriors lost four starters to graduation. So it was back to the drawing board. While there were some growing pains early in the season, coach Mike Potsou’s Warriors put together another winning season, going 17-8. Now, it’s time for the postseason. The Class 3 District 4 tourney begins Tuesday (Feb. 24) and the second-seeded Warriors will face No. 7 seed Valley Park (11-10) at 6:30 p.m. at Principia. The Whitfield Warriors girls basketball team heads into the Class 3 District 4 as the No. 1 seed. Whitfield (9-13) begins district play Monday (Feb. 23) at 3:30 p.m. against No. 8 Cleveland NJROTC (4-13). Principia is the district host. Harrison, Nappier propel CBC past Fort Zumwalt West for Challenge Cup Championship berth

The names may change but the results never seem to change when it comes to the CBC hockey Cadets excelling in the Mid-States Challenge Cup playoffs. On Saturday night at Hardees Iceplex, it was the play making of Jack Harrison and strong work between the pipes of goalie Tommy Nappier that gave the Cadets the edge against a talented Fort Zumwalt West squad. Missouri State’s Matheny earns spot on USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award watch list

Missouri State junior outfielder Tate Matheny, a Westminster Christian Academy graduate, was one of 50 players named to USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award watch list recently. A consensus 2015 preseason All-America choice, Matheny becomes the second Bear in three seasons to be considered for the honor, which recognizes the top amateur baseball player in the country. Marquette seeks to remain in upper tier of teams in annual girls state swim meet

Marquette Mustangs girls swimming coach Joe Schoedel wants to keep his program at the upper levels in the annual high school girls swimming and diving championships.
