Parkway West girls win sectional to vault into state cross country meet

The mission for the Parkway West girls cross country team in the sectional race was a clear one. “We wanted to win sectionals and punch our ticket to the state meet,” Longhorns coach Charlie Cutelli said. “We knew we had a chance at doing this if we ran like we had run all year.” Parkway West won its district race. St. Joseph’s Academy finishes third in Class 2 state girls tennis tournament

The St. Joseph’s Academy Angels set a goal to return to the Class 2 Final Four in high school girls tennis this season. Mission accomplished. Westminster Christian Academy has won the Wickenheiser Cup for the past two seasons but coach Dean Penberthy is keeping expectations modest for the Wildcats. He said the goal this year is to attempt to win the Central Conference and then see what happens in the postseason. “This season will be a real test for us,” Penberthy said. “We have several players that have differing schedules that will force them to miss games. Parkway North’s Bunton ready to begin his last postseason as Vikings football head coach

Parkway North coach Bob Bunton knows he is on borrowed time but he’s too busy to think about it. Bunton posted a letter on Facebook back in September where he announced he would step down at the end of the season and retire from coaching and teaching. Bunton, a Parkway North graduate, is in his 19th season as the head football coach for the Vikings after spending 18 years as an assistant coach. Parkway West girls win district cross country championship, Hershenow claims medalist honors

The Parkway West Longhorns captured their the girls cross country district championship and senior Chloe Hershenow won medalist honors with her best time ever. The Longhorns won the District 2 meet at Francis Park in south St. Louis. Parkway West finished first with 69 points. Hershenow was the medalist with a winning time of 18 minutes, 33.46 seconds. Eureka was second with 72. Marquette wound up third with 76 points and Nerinx Hall came in fourth with 107. Parkway Central wins first boys district cross country championship since 1971 to advance to sectional race

The Parkway Central Colts cross country boys team are district champions for the first time in 47 years . That’s no misprint. It’s been that long for the running Colts to take first in a district meet. “This is the first district title since 1971,” Parkway Central coach Brian Guilfoyle said. The Colts won the Class 4 District 3 race that Parkway Central hosted. Parkway Central finished with 31 points. Defending state softball champion Marquette returns to Class 4 Final Four looking to repeat

They’re ba-a-a-a-ck. No, not poltergeist. Rather, the Marquette Mustangs softball team. The team is back in the Class 4 Final Four. The 23-3 Mustangs play at 11 a.m. Friday (Oct. 26) against Blue Springs South (21-6) at the Killian Softball Complex in Springfield. Lafayette’s Biermann ends sophomore season with second-place finish in Class 2 state golf tournament

Lafayette sophomore Brooke Biermann capped her season with a second-place finish in the Class 2 state golf tournament. Biermann, of Wildwood, shot rounds of 71 and 72 to score a 143 over the two-day tournament at Swope Park Golf Course in Kansas City. Notre Dame de Sion sophomore Megan Propeck won state with a state record 5-under-par 139. MICDS finishes third in sixth consecutive trip to girls state golf tournament

The MICDS Rams finished third in the Class 1 state golf tournament and junior Parker Perry came in third overall. “This season marked the sixth year in a row taking a team to state,” coach Steve Johnston said. “(I) Don’t know the record books at MICDS, but (I) have to believe our streak of six years in a row has to be a school record.” This fall, the Rams were put back in Class 1 by the Missouri State High School Activities Association.
