2019-20 girls high school basketball preview capsules

The Parkway Central Colts finished third in Class 5 last winter and return four starters from that team. Coach Brian Guilfoyle is entering his 10th year at helm of the Colts, who finished 24-7 with a program-best third-place showing in the Class 4 state tournament. Parkway Central will be led by Jayla Kelly, who recently signed to play college basketball with Missouri. The third time was indeed the charm for the De Smet soccer Spartans under coach Josh Klein. After narrow misses in the Class 4 state championship game in 2015 and 2018, De Smet was determined not to be a bridesmaid again this season. The De Smet Spartans won the Class 4 state soccer championship with a victory over Lee’s Summit. It was the sixth overall state title for the program. The Chaminade swimming and diving team has added some hardware for the school’s trophy case. The Red Devils finished fourth and set two school records in the recent Class 1 state swimming and diving meet at the Rec-Plex in St. Peters. Lafayette freshman Tyson ends first girls cross country season with a medal at Class 4 state meet

Lafayette freshman Grace Tyson capped a solid first year running for the Lancers by earning a state medal. Tyson finished third in the Class 4 race at Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia. Week 13: Eureka, Chaminade, De Smet remain alive in high school football playoffs

Eureka (10-1) plays at Jackson (11-0) at 7 p.m. Fort Zumwalt North (11-0) travels to play at Chaminade (8-3) at 7 p.m. Last week, Eureka blanked defending state champion Vianney 36-0. De Smet reaches Class 4 soccer semifinals for third time since 2015

De Smet is back and the soccer Spartans want a different result this year. De Smet (16-4-1) plays in a Class 4 boys soccer state semifinal at 3:30 p.m. Friday against Lindbergh (17-8-1) at the Soccer Park in Fenton. The Spartans will be trying to win the program’s sixth championship and first since 2011. The Spartans finished second in Class 4 last season with a 1-0 loss against CBC. A few Rebels on this year’s Priory squad remain from the 2017 Class 2 state championship soccer team. Those Rebels get another chance this weekend to earn another state title.
