St. Joseph’s Woodman and Choate repeat as Class 2 state doubles champions in tennis

It was deja vu all over again for senior Lexie Woodman, sophomore Ellie Choate and senior Shannon Sims for the St. Joseph’s Academy Angels. The pair of Woodman and Choate again played another duo of Angels, Sims and newcomer sophomore Morgan McKinnis for the Class 2 state doubles championship at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield. St. Joseph’s Academy wins 16th state team tennis championship

Chuck Berry had a hit song with “Sweet Little Sixteen” and the St. Joseph’s Angels just might adopt it as their new theme song. The Angels captured their first Class 2 girls team tennis state championship since 2012. St. Joseph’s blew away both opponents in the Final Four at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield. The St. Joseph’s Academy girls tennis team won its 16th state championship. The Angels swept all their postseason matches by identical 5-0 scores. 2019-20 high school hockey preview capsules

It’s time to drop the puck on another Midstates Club Hockey Association season. Play begins Monday (Nov. 4) for some teams while others begin later in the week. St. Louis University High won the Challenge Cup over De Smet Jesuit last season. Lafayette won the Wickenheiser Cup with a win over Duchesne. Eureka won the Founder’s Cup by defeating Fort Zumwalt West. Lafayette returns 15 players from last year’s team that won the Wickenheiser Cup championship under coach Jim Carrico. CBC finishes second in Top Hat Classic, set to open hockey regular season

CBC coach John Jost liked what he saw from his Cadets in the preseason Top Hat Classic hockey tournament. The annual Webster Groves tournament has been a way for CBC to begin the high school hockey season for the last 20 years. The CBC Cadets finished second in the 2019 Top Hat Classic held by Webster Groves. Vianney defeated the Cadets 5-3 in the championship game. Marquette boys win district cross country meet, Mustangs’ Burke is medalist

The Marquette boys cross country team heads into the sectional meet for the 11th consecutive season. The Mustangs won the recent Class 4 District 4 meet at Brookdale Farms in Eureka. Marquette finished first in the 12-team district with 69 points. The Marquette boys cross country team won the Class 4 District 4 meet. The Mustangs will compete next in the sectional race at Parkway Central and try to earn a berth to the state tournament in Columbia. Eureka girls win cross country district meet, set for Class 4 sectional race and chance to earn state berth

The Eureka Wildcats are on the run and ready to race in the girls sectional meet with the goal being to return as a team to the state meet. The Wildcats won the Class 4 District 4 meet at Brookdale Farms in Eureka with 35 points.  Coming in second was Parkway West with 78 followed by Lafayette (79) and Marquette (122). Week 10 high school football: District action begins

Postseason football is here. The nine-week regular season has ended. Now, it’s win and keep playing or lose and pack up the equipment. In Class 6 District 1, De Smet is seeded first while CBC seeded second. In District 3, Marquette is seeded second while Lafayette seeded third. All four teams will be in action Friday night. Kickoffs are at 7 p.m. CBC, the two-time defending state champion, will entertain St. Louis University High. The Cadets are 7-2. The Junior Billikiens are 5-4. The Westminster Christian Academy Wildcats boys cross country team heads into district competition fresh off winning the Metro League championship. Coach Nile Heefner’s Wildcats will compete at noon Saturday in the Class 3 District 4 meet. Teams competing in the district meet are Blair Oaks, Boonville, California, Capital City, Eldon, Fulton, MICDS, Osage, Priory, Southern Boone, Warrenton, Westminster Christian Academy and Wright City. 2019 Mid-America Junior Cup team set

The 2019 Mid-America Junior Cup team is set. The Mid America Junior Cup is a collaborative event between MAGA and the Kansas City Golf Association. Each team consists of eight junior golfers, four boys and four girls, from each side of the state and play several match play formats including Four-Ball, foursomes and singles. The event will be hosted by the KCGA this year and will be played at Kansas City Country Club in Mission Hills, Kan.
