Port makes cut in inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open Championship

Ellen Port made the cut and was the highest placing amateur at two rounds in the inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open Championship. Port stands 7-over after two rounds. Port, of St. Louis, was tied for 26th place. The 56-year-old Port shot a 79 and a 74 for a 153 at the Chicago Golf Club in suburban Wheaton, Ill. The cut was 158. Par and yardage for the tournament are 73 and 6,277 yards. The top 50 players and ties advance to Saturday’s third round. Eckelkamp, Meek ready to compete in Missouri Women’s Amateur championship

Defending champion Jess Meek and runner-up Kayla Eckelkamp have not played much golf this summer but both women are confident heading into the 88th edition of the Missouri Women’s Amateur. The state tournament will be played at St. Joseph Country Club. The three-day tournament begins Monday (July 16). The venerable golf course, which dates back to 1912, has hosted the tournament more than any other Missouri golf course, the first Eckelkamp, a Maryville University graduate, is a Washington native. Emily Goldenstein is ready to tee it up and play in the 88th edition of the Missouri Women’s Amateur. History will be in the air as players and golf fans make the drive through the Village of Country Club to the St. Joseph Country Club. Bunton’s Kats clinch berth in St. Louis Metro Collegiate Baseball League championship series

The postseason in the St. Louis Metro Collegiate Baseball League and Kats manager Bo Bunton is feeling good about his team. The top two teams will play a best-of-five series that starts Monday (July 16). The Kats (19-3) have clinched the top seed. They await their opponent. It will either be the Bandits or the Sox. The regular season ends Saturday. Eureka Post 177 will attempt to win District 10 postseason tournament for third year in a row

Eureka Post 177 is out to defend its District 10 Legion tournament championship it has won the past two years. Eureka is 21-10. The tournament is under way. The championship game is set for Sunday (July 15) at Heine Meine field. Coach Alex Wolters said the tournament this week will produce some good baseball. “(It’s) Really balanced.
