Frankie Thomas takes another big step in his golfing career by playing in an international field of 156 golfers in the 68th annual U.S. Junior Amateur for the second time. Thomas will compete in the United States Golf Association’s 2015 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship begins Monday (July 20). It will be held at the 7,366-yard, par-72 Colleton River Plantation Club’s Pete Dye Course. He learned a great deal from playing in the event last year. Thomas failed to make the cut. Three West County athletes made a good run but fell short in the final round of The 77th Missouri Women’s Amateur Championship on Wednesday (July 15). The Missouri Women’s Golf Association premier tournament was held at The Country Club of St. Albans. Two-time champion Catherine Dolan, of Ballwin, shot a 74 and finished in third place with a 219. Defending District 10 champion Ballwin Post 611 begins its quest to hold onto its title when American Legion baseball postseason play begins. Rain hampered play this summer and forced many games not to be played. Post 611 opens action in the double-elimination tournament with a 5:30 p.m. game Wednesday (July 15) against Maryland Heights Red. Two-time Missouri Women’s Golf Association Women’s Amateur championship Catherine Dolan enters the final round of the annual state tournament two shots out of the lead.
