Parkway West boys tennis team plays well in winning district title

The Parkway West Longhorns captured their second consecutive district championship and head into the sectional match Saturday (May 23) with a full head of steam. The host Longhorns defeated Lafayette 5-1 to claim the Class 2 District 6 title. The Lafayette boys track and field team had two athletes broke a record that has stood since 1996 in the same race at the Class 5 District 2 meet. The Lafayette Lancers qualified for the girls track and field sectional by winning the Class 5 District 2 meet. The Lancers will compete in Sectional 1 Saturday (May 23) at Washington. The CBC Cadets captured the Class 2 District 5 championship in boys tennis with a victory over host Parkway Central. The two teams are usual contenders in the postseason among large schools and have frequent trips to the Final Four in Springfield to back it up. The Clayton Greyhounds came into the Class 4, District 4 tournament as the number four seed and with few expectations of going far.
