Two-time defending champion Ellen Port and Brenda Pictor shared the U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur qualifying lead at even-par 73 on Saturday (Sept. 13) at Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, N.J. On Friday night (Sept 12) at home, Lafayette battled through rain, cold, and determined archrival Marquette, to find its way into the win column for the first time in 2014. Westminster Christian Academy, MICDS meet in Metro League football matchup

Westminster Christian Academy and MICDS have developed a fine high school football rivalry in recent years. The two Metro League schools will square off at 1 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 13) at Westminster. “Westminster have become one of our rivals,” MICDS coach Josh Smith said. “They are in our classification (Class 4) for the postseason. Ellen Port has had custody of the Senior Women’s Amateur Championship trophy for the past two years. The tradition is that the current champion keeps it until the next tournament.   It is on to the Championship round for the River City Rascals baseball club. River City punched its ticket to the Frontier League Championship series on Thursday night thanks to a 4-1 win over the Washington (Pa.) Wild Things in game two of its divisional series at TR Hughes Ballpark in O’Fallon, Mo. The Rascals defeated Washington 2-1 on Monday (Sept. 9) in extra innings to take game one of the series. Week 4 high school football: Marquette plays at Lafayette

It’s  Week 4 of the high school football season and a big rivalry game highlights the schedule for area teams. The Marquette Mustangs(1-2) will play at Lafayette (0-3) against the Lancers. The kickoff is at 7 p.m. Friday (Sept. 12). This will be the first time playing this game for new Mustangs coach Matt Klein. Lafayette has won eight of the last 10 meetings with the Mustangs. Angel Classic will determine teams for Missouri/Illinois River to River Challenge
